Peppermint essential oil is the active ingredient in many popular over-the-counter treatments for IBS. There is an alternate way to get hold of the self same ingredient at home – and there’s no need for a lab and capsule making kit either! Simply pour boiling water on a handful of peppermint leaves to make a simple infusion and drink as needed. You can even add other herbs such as fennel leaves, aniseed, dill or chamomile to give it extra flavour and digestive properties.
